As every year 3D interested audience, 3D specialists and developers met in 2011 in Paris to discuss methods, applications and trends of 3D visualization , mainly of geo referenced applications. Bitmanagement – also sponsor of the conference – contributed several own presentations to the event.
On this year’s Web3D ACM Conference and exhibiton, from June 20 to June 22, 2011 in Paris, the event united researchers, developers, entrepreneurs, experimenters, artists and content creators in a dynamic learning environment. Bitmanagement the German based 3D software provider and member of the Web3D consortium presented in tutorials and paper session its 3D technology. CEO Peter Schickel was chairman of a workshop highlighting geospatial visualizing, whereas Herbert Stocker and Oliver Neubauer focused on results for X3D Binary Encoding for free viewpoint networked distribution.
Attendees shared and explored methods of using, enhancing and creating new 3D Web and Multimedia technologies such as WebGL, X3D, VRML, Collada, MPEG family, U3D, Java 3D and HTML5. The conference highlighted capabilities and trends in interactive 3D graphics across a wide range of applications and devices from mobile devices to high end immersive environments. Issues regarding inter-operability, durability or delivery of 4D assets have been also of particular interest
Peter Schickel as chairman of the workshop 'Geo visualization' took the opportunity to showcase the 3D viewer technology BS Contact from Bitmanagement. According to customers BS Contact is among the most reliable and highest performing viewers on the market. "Real world applications are finally becoming a truly open system of Geo referenced 3D scenes. The next challenge facing the market is to demonstrate, how these open standards and open assets can all work together in effective and complimentary way", said Peter Schickel.
Herbert Stocker and Oliver Neubauer talked in their paper session about how to encode 3D models based on large data volume and how this can be optimized for use on internet. They verified based on the 3D viewer BS Contact for example that by encoding the web3D Binary Code the download time could be shorten by up to 50 percent in comparison to other standard viewer technologies. Therewith they could demonstrate that even high volume of data can be reduced for both high performance distribution on the internet and for effective collaborative work.
